Teaching Cross Curricular with a Classroom Transformation!

Teaching cross-curricular can be so fun and making a classroom transformation can be even better! Your students will be so excited to see how your classroom can transform into a Pizzeria! And, it doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult! Here’s what you need to get started!

Materials/Supplies:

1.) Red-checked tablecloths

2.) Chef Hats

3.) How to Make a Pizza Writing Craftivity

4.) Pizza Math Mats

5.) Play-Dough: red, green, and white

6.) Sequencing cards: First, Then, Next and Last

7.) Pizza/Pizza Bites/Pizza Rolls- to eat at the end of the day!

Reading:

First, I love to read “The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza” and make connections with other stories!

Writing and Art:

Then, I love to have my students write about how to make a pizza. We use these cards to sequence together on my pocket chart. We discuss what procedural texts are and how we write them. We use picture cards to put the pizza ingredients in order.

Then, your students can make this adorable craftivity with a chef topper, and it will look SUPER CUTE on display in your hallway!

Math:

Next, You’ll need these math mats- copy on color and laminate. Your students can pick a card to put at the top of the mat. Then, they can build their pizza toppings using the number on their card with play-dough! You can have red for pepperoni, green for green peppers, and white for mushrooms! They will LOVE it!

If you have anyone that is allergic to play dough, you can have them use snap cubes!

Last, at the end of the day, you can serve pizza rolls, pizza, or pizza bites. Here is a kid-friendly video about how a pizza is made! Your students will LOVE it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NN_xjwniMLM

I teach teachers like you how to manage your classroom so you can teach Cross-Curricular.  I live in Boerne in the Texas Hill Country. I’ve been teaching for 24 years in first grade and I LOVE it! I am married to a band director and have two beautiful daughters: Kennedi and Presleigh. I love shopping, decorating and playing flute, piano and singing.
