Do you LOVE having your students make Mother’s Day gifts, arts and crafts? Do you love incorporating special holidays and celebrations within your classroom? How about adding some Mother’s Day fun? I’m always looking for new ways to spice up my Mother’s Day celebrations so here are some of my ideas!
Host a Mother’s Day Tea Party
First of all, Mother’s Day can be challenging for some students who don’t have a mom figure. If this happens, then I include the dads. If the student doesn’t have a mom but has an aunt, grandma, cousin, step-mom, or any female role model in their life, then I include them as well. Let’s start with a Mother’s Day Tea Party!
Make an invitation to your parents to invite them to your Mother’s Day Tea Party. I usually have the party at the end of the day on the Friday before Mother’s Day. We spend about 1 hour on this celebration. Here are some fun things that we do…
Cover your tables with pretty tablecloths or colored butcher paper. I like to use blue, yellow and pink.
We have tea or lemonade, muffins and donuts. The students serve their moms while they sit at their desks. The students go and get their tea and refreshments and bring it to them. The moms LOVE THIS!
If You Give a Mom a Muffin
While they sit at their desks together, they can color a booklet called: If You Give a Mom a Muffin. It’s a spin-off of ” If You Give a Moose a Muffin”. Then they can bring this booklet home. If you’re interested in the booklet, click here. This will give the students and moms something to do while they are eating.
Paper Mache Glass Flower Vase
About a week before, we make paper mache glass flower vases. We take squares of tissue paper: blue, pink, and yellow, and glue them onto the glass jar to make a flower vase. These turn out to be so beautiful and these are something that the moms can keep forever! We also make flowers to stick inside the vase. We use green construction paper for the stems and different colored circles for the flowers. I love using circles for flowers because they look unique and different. Aren’t they beautiful?
What’s so neat about these jars is that they can be all different shapes and sizes. I love using mason jars, pickle jars, and clear mugs. They are all so unique!
Tea Time Writing Center
If you LOVE having a holiday writing center and want to have many different examples of writing displayed in your center, then you’re in luck! This resource includes writing “I Can” Posters to display in your writing center, Tea Time Writing Banner, Vocabulary Cards, and different writing templates for your students to use as well. Your students will have so much fun and be engaged that they won’t even know they’re writing! Plus, these Writing Posters will look SUPER CUTE on your Writing Center Bulletin Board! May Kitchen Center
How about a Mother’s Day Day-themed kitchen center? I always change out my kitchen center to match the month and holiday with fun hands-on projects the students can make. For this one, I have a How to Make Mother’s Day Tea Party, How to Make a Flower Garden, How to Make a Flower Pot, and How to Chop Vegetables. I have teal trays with labels on the front so the students know what they can choose from. Check out my video about my May Kitchen Center:
Mother’s Day Placemats
Another fun arts and craft that you can do for your mom, is make a placemat! You can have your students make a picture of their mom on one side and write about her on the left side. I use the large construction paper and then laminate it when they are finished. They can write about their favorite food, their favorite flower, their favorite color, what they like best about her, and what she does for them.

You can also have your students write a story about their mom using these cute boy and girl pictures.
And… don’t forget to take pictures of your students with their Mom! They will love it and will be a day they will never forget!
